Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama is expected to finalize his decisions Monday regarding key requests on the budget and tax reform measures for fiscal 2010, such as whether to introduce an income limit on child care allowances and maintain the provisional tax rate on gasoline.
The government and ruling coalition parties on Sunday began final discussions on the budget and tax reforms.
Ichiro Ozawa, secretary general of the Democratic Party of Japan, on Sunday asked the government to realize policies on the key requests he submitted Wednesday.
"[The request regarding the budget was made] after it was broadly agreed that the budget compilation should include the issuance of up to 44 trillion yen in government bonds," Ozawa said during a speech at a gathering of the DPJ's Iwate prefectural chapter in Morioka. "The request was the result of serious efforts to bring a halt to irresponsible demands regarding the government's decisions."
"The government will make the final decisions, but we heard as many requests from the public and each region as we could and conveyed them to the government," Ozawa said.
The government is aiming to have the tax reform measures and the budget approved at Cabinet meetings to be held Tuesday and Friday, respectively.
