Peshawar was rocked with three high-intensity bomb explosions including a suicide attack against a police checkpost in Mattani area on Thursday evening.

So far eight people were killed in twin explosions at historical Qissakhwani Bazaar and around 100 others injured. The police claimed killing two terrorists and arrested two others after a brief encounter.

On the other hand, three policemen were killed and six others injured as a result of suicide attack against a police post at Sarakhawra in Matanai area which resulted in the killing of three police personnel and injuring of six others.

Two powerful bomb explosions occurred at historical Qissakhwani Bazaar Thursday evening. The explosions occurred in a time of around one minute, at the most congested and busy shopping area called Kabari Bazaar. The area is known for electronic, video, audio and music centres and also other items like clothes, tea, shoes and cosmetics.

The Senior Superintendent Police Peshawar Mian Ghulam Mohammad present on the site confirmed five dead and 70 injured. He said that explosive materials had been planted in motorbikes, which were parked in the street, while explosives used in other blast were planted in a Suzuki pick-up. The injured were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar.

The killed persons were identified as Saifullah, Syed Ahmad, Abdullah Shah, Mohammad Naeem, Javed Bacha Khan, Imtiaza and a minor girl made hostage by the terrorist inside the building.

Soon after the explosions, as police personnel and officers rushed to the site along with volunteers in connection with rescue activities, some persons hiding in an adjacent building opened indiscriminate firing. The occupants of the building also made a child as shield. However, the police force headed by Capital City Police Chief Sifwat Ghayoor cordoned off the building.

The encounter between the police force and the alleged militants continued for around half an hour. The personnel of Police and Elite Police Force succeeded in killing two militants and capturing alive two others. The dead bodies were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital whereas both the arrested persons were shifted to an unknown place for interrogation.

The twin explosions besides causing loss of human lives also destroyed more than one dozen shops and above 20 vehicles. A number of vehicles and shops caught fire, which was later extinguished by fire brigade squads.

Soon after two explosions, suicide attack occurred against a police post at Sara Khawra at Matanai on Kohat Road. Three policemen were killed and six others injured. The injured were shifted to Peshawar Lady Reading Hospital.

Security was put on red alert in Peshawar while hundreds of police were deployed in the Qissa Khawani and Kabli area to foil any possible attack by the militants side. Besides frontier police, Anti Terrorist Squad also contributed in the operation.
