A fire engulfed a boarding house in Jati Pulo sub district of Palmerah in West Jakarta, Indonesia on Thursday morning, killing eight people and burning eight motorcycles, tempointeraktif.com reported.

Brigade Witadri Kuriawan, an officer of the city police's Traffic Management Center (TMC), said Thursday that the fire had started to burn the R. Sukamto's house at 2.45am, while the boarding inhabitants were still sleeping.

“They did not have any time to rescue themselves from the fire,” he said.

The West Jakarta Fire Agency deployed 14 fire engines and were able to extinguish the fire around two hours later. All of the victims, who mostly worked as employees, were taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo hospital for autopsies.

The Palmerah District Police has yet to disclose  the cause of the fire, and is investigating the case.
