Cambodia to attend hearing over border dispute with Thailand

Publication Date : 03-01-2013

Cambodia will attend International Court of Justice (ICJ) hearings in The Hague in April over its border dispute with Thailand in Preah Vihear province, an official said yesterday.

"We have prepared documents and evidence already," Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation spokesman Koy Kuong told reporters.

In a statement issued last week, the ICJ said Cambodia would give evidence followed by Thailand. The hearings are scheduled from April 15 to 19.

Cambodia filed a complaint to the court in May 2011 following Thailand's occupation of a zone around the Preah Vihear Temple in 2008.

The ICJ subsequently ruled that Cambodia and Thailand should withdraw troops from a provisional demilitarised zone around the temple. The two countries have since replaced troops with police.
