No political prisoners in Cambodia, reiterates PM
Publication Date : 24-11-2012
Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen reiterated yesterday that there were no political prisoners in the country although there were politicians who broke the law.
Speaking at a land title ceremony in Preah Vihear, he said he could not interfere in the judicial system.
"Some non-government organisations fake documents and thumbprints and when they are sentenced start making things up. I say Cambodia has no political prisoners," the prime minister said, reiterating his remarks to US President Barack Obama earlier this week.
"They accuse me of controlling the judicial system, but they seek my intervention to release prisoners. If we do wrong, the court will sentence us."
Hun Sen noted that some senior government officials, military commanders and police had already been sentenced for drugs and other crimes."
