AirAsia records surge in passengers

AirAsia Bhd recorded a 12 per cent year-on-year increase in passengers carried for the third quarter ended September, while its revenue passenger kilometre increased 8 per cent.
In a statement, the budget carrier said there were 8.22 million passengers carried for the three months under review, compared with 7.35 million passengers carried a year earlier.
Its Malaysian unit posted a strong load factor of 77 per cent in the third quarter, while capacity increased by 10 per cent year-on-year as part of its strategy to increase frequencies on trunk routes during the holiday period.
As at end of the third quarter, AirAsia in Malaysia is operating 59 aircraft (out of the group’s fleet size of 103 aircraft).
Meanwhile, Thai AirAsia posted a third quarter load factor of 82 per cent, a 2 percentage point increase year-on-year, with two million passengers carried or a 22 per cent increase versus capacity increase of 19 per cent.
