AirAsia added another feather to its cap by attaining top spot in the “Best Low-Cost Airline” category at Business Traveller Asia-Pacific's annual Travel Awards ceremony in Hong Kong.

The Best Low-Cost Airline is a new category introduced this year in recognition of the growing force of budget carriers and AirAsia.

It was an honour to be the first recipient of the prestigious award and added that AirAsia would continue to work hard, AirAsia Group Chief Executive Officer Tony Fernandes said in a statement.

Business Traveller Asia-Pacific had sent out poll forms to its subscribers who are regarded as some of the region's most experienced frequent travellers between April and June.

Separately, AirAsia said it had also started flying to Don Mueang International Airport in Thailand.

“I am extremely happy with our move to Don Mueang International Airport, which is probably Thailand's biggest and first low-cost airport,” Fernandes told the audience at the event.

“Operating out of low-cost airports has always been something that we have been fighting long and hard for.

“This is a first step towards a big change in the low-cost carrier industry in this region,” added Fernandes after receiving the award.
