'China working for loan revival for Bangladesh project'

China hopes the World Bank will revive its loan agreement on the Padma bridge project, Bangladesh's largest infrastructire project, in the interest of socio-economic development of the southasian country.

Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Li Jun said his country was surprised at the scrapping of the loan agreement.

He made the remarks during an interaction with editors and senior journalists at the Chinese embassy yesterday.

China wants to see revival of the WB loan and is doing a lot to that end, he told the meeting.

Li Jun also said his country attaches great importance to its relationship with Bangladesh.

In reply to a query, the envoy said China was ready to help Bangladesh construct a deep-sea port at Sonadia in southeastern of Bangladesh.

He informed the meeting that two Chinese companies had shown interest in the deep-sea port construction, and an office had already been opened in Bangladesh for negotiations.
