Publication Date : 12-07-2012

Myanmar President U Thein Sein has reshuffled six deputy ministers due to efficiency reasons.

Those who have been reshuffled are Deputy Minister U Thant Shin from the rail transport ministry to the presidential office; Deputy Minister U Chan Maung from the presidential office to rail transport ministry; Deputy Minister U Win Shein from transport ministry to the finance and revenue ministry; Deputy Minister U Han Sein from the presidential office to the transport ministry; Deputy Minister U Win Than from the finance and revenue ministry to the communications ministry; and Deputy Minister Dr Myo Myint from the foreign affairs ministry to the education ministry.

Some observers say that a reshuffle might also include eliminating or combining some ministries.

A lawmaker said the changes had nothing to do with any factional or ideological struggle but was purely based on performance and the aim to make the president’s agenda more effective.

Another lawmaker said in order to make the Cabinet more vibrant and effective, Thein Sein needs to remove some conservatives who are reluctant to accept his reforms.
