About 2,000 ex-LTTE cadres queue up to join defence force

About 2,000 ex-cadres of the Liberation Tiger of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) had queued up to join the Civil Defence Force (CDF) on Saturday at Killinochchi, Director General of the Civil Defence Department, Rear Adm. Ananda Peiris said.
They were present at the launch of a programme to recruit 1,500 ex-Tiger cadres to the CDF at the Killinochchi office of the ‘Tharunyayata Hetak’.According to Rear Adm.
Peiris they were provided with application forms and as an initial intake they hoped to recruit about 300 males and females from among the applicants. On a proposal of the President of the ‘Tharunyayata Hetak’, MP Namal Rajapaksa 300 LTTE cadres from each of the districts of Killinochchi, Jaffna, Mulaitivu, Mannar, and Vavuniya would be recruited to the CDF.
Those 1,500 recruited to the CDF would be deployed for development and agricultural activities in the north and they would also be afforded opportunities to serve in their home areas.
Saturday’s recruitment programme spearheaded by MP Rajapaksa also saw Northern Governor retired Maj. Gen. G.A. Chandrasiri, Private Bus Transport Minister C.B. Ratnayake and Rear Adm. Peiris also in attendance.
