Vietnam's northern province strives to combat bird flu

The northern mountainous Dien Bien Phu city has announced bird flu epidemic in Nam Thanh Ward with 7,000 domestic fowls incinerated.
This is the third localities in Dien Bien province experiencing bird flu outbreak apart from Thanh Yen and Noong Luong communes in Dien Bien District.
Dien Bien Phu City has cornered the affected areas and prevented the transport of fowls and poultry products out of the region. Processing, selling and consuming affected products in the province are also prohibited.
Meanwhile, in the non-affected areas, operation of slaughterhouses and trade of poultry is scrutinised. Farming free-ranging ducks is also not allowed.
The forces which is in charge of blue ear disease in pigs are mobilised to fight bird flu.
To alleviate the difficulties of local husbandry households the provincial leaders has asked the department of finance and agriculture and rural development to prepare fund to support the affected families following the state regulation.
