Lao Airlines gets ISO certification for ticketing, booking

Lao Airlines yesterday received International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) certification for ticket sales and booking services.

Speaking at the certificate presentation ceremony in Vientiane yesterday, Head of the airline's ISO Project Rada Sunthorn said, “This event is not just a first for the airline but is a historic occasion.”

The ISO 9001:2008 certification is a management standard quality system for ticket sales and booking services.

“Today is a very important day for all of the staff at Lao Airlines because they're delighted we've got this ISO,” Rada said.

Lao Airlines employs professional staff and has modern aircraft, he added.

Lao Airlines received the ISO 9001:2008 certificate from the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), after being inspected by the Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS).

ISO 9001:2008 is the management standard quality system that is accepted for organisations and private businesses throughout the world for production, service, and human resource development.

“This standard quality system will help in creating strong management. This system will help our customers to feel satisfied and boost our income,” Rada said.

The ISO and the International Oversight Safety Audit (IOSA) are top goals in Lao Airlines' development plan.

Lao Airlines has been working towards ISO certification for ticket sales and booking since 2006.

Lao Airlines had been working with SGS on the project up until June. The project provided training for senior officials and technicians at Lao Airlines to provide them with lessons, rules, and knowledge. The project changed the old style of management to an acceptable standard of quality.

“We want our logo, services, quality, international standards and customer satisfaction to be further developed,” Rada said.

The project underwent inspection and advising on six occasions. It was also checked by the SGS four times and Lao Airlines inspected itself two times, Rada said.

After checking procedures on each occasion, Lao Airlines and SGS consulted and shared ideas on developing work for the management standard quality system for ticket selling and booking services.

After a final visit by SGS inspectors on May 21 and 22, the SGS agreed to present the ISO 9001:2008.

The SGS organised a certificate presentation ceremony for Lao Airlines on June 11.

Attending the event were Minister of Public Works and Transport Sommad Pholsena, General Director of Lao Airlines Dr Somphone Duangdala, Director of the Civil Aviation Department Yakua Lorpangkua, and SGS staff.
