Brace for X-rated dance action with soca singer Kevin Lyttle
The bootylicious Bangkok crowd gets the chance to bump 'n' grind next week as singer Kevin Lyttle gives Thailand its first-ever taste of real soca, at Zaks on Sukhumvit Soi 11.
The 35-year-old singer from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has inspired X-rated dance action across the globe via two studio albums, with bodies jiggling to "Last Drop", "Drive Me Crazy", "Fyah" and "Anywhere" featuring hip-hop's Flo Rida. But the booty quake topped the Richter scale with his monster hit "Turn Me On", a soca ballad that peaked at No 4 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The aftershock rumbled through Hollywood and Lyttle's tracks "Drive Me Crazy" and "I Got It" were featured in the 2004 film "After the Sunset" starring Pierce Brosnan and Salma Hayek.
Lyttle recorded breakthrough hit "Turn Me On" in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in 2001. Thanks to his strong live performances influenced by dancehall and contemporary R&B, the song became a hit throughout the Caribbean before finding its way to clubs in the UK, where it was released as a single in 2003. "Turn Me On" reached No 2 in its first week and spent seven weeks in the Top 10 of the UK Singles Chart. Eventually, the song made it to the US and went gold.
His debut album, "Kevin Lyttle", was released in July 2004 to much acclaim. Artists queued up to collaborate on follow-up "Fyah" in 2008, which featured Problem Child, Lexxus and Skinny Fabulous, as well as a duet version of "Turn Me On" with Alison Hinds. Lyttle is currently working on a new album scheduled for release this year.
After Bangkok, Lyttle will play shows in Malaysia and Dubai before heading back stateside to put the finishing touches to his new disc.
Lyttle's will be the first in a programme of big live music shows at newly opened wine pub and restaurant Zaks.
The management promises a fun night with a string of hits and an easygoing atmosphere with Lyttle available for chats and photos. The venue has 20 seats, and only another 100 standing tickets. Keeping the party going after the show will be a DJ from Barcelona.
Kevin Lyttle performs at Zaks Wine Pub on Sukhumvit Soi 11 on Wednesday.
