Vietnam's Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said Singaporean President Tony Keng Yam's decision to choose Vietnam as his first foreign visit after taking office was a vivid manifestation of the friendship, mutual trust and fine co-operation between the two countries.
During a reception given to the Singaporean President in the capital city yesterday, Trong spoke highly of the fine relationships between the two nations, affirming Vietnam's high regards toward the friendship and co-operation with Singapore.
"Vietnam wants to deepen her friendship and comprehensive co-operation with Singapore in the fields of economics, trade, defence and security, education and training, oil and gas, justice, and others," Trong said.
He also voiced Vietnam's resolve to co-ordinate closely with Singapore at multi-lateral forums, including ASEAN and the United Nations, for the interest of people of the two countries, for peace, stability, and development in the region and the world.
President Yam reiterated his country's policy to continue to co-operate with Vietnam in different domains and to share experiences with her, especially in the areas of investment, trade, urban infrastructure, sea ports and human resources training.
He expressed his conviction that Vietnam would see more achievements in socio-economic development and basically become an industrialised country by 2020.
