Profound love for humanity lies concealed behind all the literary creations of Rabindranath which deal with human emotions and crises, speakers said at a seminar on Tagore.
Addressing a day-long celebration marking the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore at Rajshahi University on April 5, speakers said that Tagore was a versatile genius in all forms of art ranging from literature, music, plays and painting.
Bangla department, Bangla Samity and Bangla Research Sangsad of the university jointly organised the celebration amid enthusiasm on the campus.
Describing Tagore as a global scholar, the speakers also said all the forms of Bengali literature have been enriched by Tagore's writings.
RU pro vice-chancellor Muhammad Nurullah inaugurated the programme while the department's teachers, students and officials and invited guests were present.
Earlier, a procession was brought out on the campus that ended in front of the university Kazi Narul Islam auditorium parading the campus's streets.
In a seminar, Prof Choudhury Zulfikar Matin presented his paper on Tagore, titled "Amorotter Jala". Later, a cultural programme on Tagore songs titled "Sarthok Janom Amar", participated by the students was held in the auditorium.
The day-long programme ended with a cultural programme on Tagore songs titled “Joy tabo bichitro anando” by singers Bulbul Islam and Nandita Yesmin while a dance programme titled “Nohi samanna nari”, on the basis of “Natir Puj”' and “Tasher Desh” of Tagore was performed by dancer Warda Rihab and her group.
