Technology company Apple said last night it will honor a number of mishandled orders and sell a mispriced product at NT$19,900 (US$620) apiece, instead of the original NT$47,710 (US$1,490), to qualified customers who had placed the orders.
Apple's response came after the Consumer Protection Commission and the Taipei City government Monday (July 26) demanded the company to provide solution to the price mix-up by Tuesday at the latest.
Apple priced its Mac Mini with 8-GB RAM at NT$19,900 instead of the original NT$47,710 on its online store on July 23 but later changed those orders back to the original price unilaterally after the mixed-up price attracted a large number of bargain hunters.
In total, customers placed orders for 41,518 Mac Minis at the bargain price, according to Yeh Ching-yuan, head of Taipei City's Law and Regulations Commission.
However, not all of these orders will go through as they were education pricing orders available only to college students or faculty or staff members. Apple has yet to confirm the number of qualified orders.
