WB rating shows M'sian govt on right track
Publication Date : 01-03-2013
The high rating given by the World Bank on the country’s corporate governance shows that the Malaysian government’s economic programmes are bearing fruit and on the right path in driving the nation forward, said Malaysian Associated Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Maicci) president K.K. Eswaran.
“We should be proud of our country and the prime minister’s efforts. The government’s initiatives have ensured that we are able to maintain our progress during testing times that have rocked many Asian and European countries into economic crisis, recession and government instability,” he said in a statement here yesterday.
He said Maicci, which represents the Indian business community, applauded the government for its economic transformation programmes, which had aggressively driven Malaysia to become a globally competitive nation.
Eswaran was commenting on the strong ratings by the World Bank on Malaysia’s Corporate Governance Report on the Observance of Standards and Codes 2012.
The prime minister, he said, should be appreciated for his bold efforts in ensuring the successful streamlining of business processes and the implementation of the Economic Transformation Programmes through special economic committees.
“His continuous effort and emphasis on business transformation have eased out plenty of bottleneck issues for local businesses and foreign investors,” he said.
