PT Volkswagen Indonesia has deferred the start of the construction of its new factory in Indonesia to 2015, instead of early this year as early planned.

Volkswagen Indonesia chief executive officer, Andrew Nasruri, said he believed the plan would be announced after Idul Fitri, around the end of July.

“My feeling is that the groundbreaking for the factory will be next year,” he said as reported by on Tuesday.

The factory will have the capacity to produce between 20,000 and 30,000 cars a year.

The company’s total sales are projected to increase to 1,600 cars this year from 1,200 last year, sales manager Jonas Cendana said. The Tiguan model dominates the sales in the domestic market.

Jonas is upbeat the target would be achieved given the sales trend of the past few months. “Until April, we have sold 400 cars,” he said.
