Publication Date : 14-04-2014

Martial arts flick The Grandmaster swept the board at the 33rd Hong Kong Film Awards last night, winning 12 awards including Best Film and Best Director.

Zhang Ziyi bagged Best Actress for her role as gongfu expert Gong Er in the actioner, following her wins for the same role at the Golden Horse Awards in Taipei and the Asia-Pacific Film Festival in Macau.

Zhang said she was grateful to director Wong Kar Wai, adding that "as long as you are on the road, your colleagues will help you up and move on".

Yet, the film by Wong did not help Tony Leung seize his sixth win in the Best Actor category, as it went to Nick Cheung for his performance in boxing drama Unbeatable, a critical and commercial hit.

Among other awards The Grandmaster took home were Best Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor and Best Cinematography.

Kara Hui was awarded Best Supporting Actress for playing an emotionally distraught mother in horror flick Rigor Mortis.

Juno Mak, nominated for Best New Director for Rigor Mortis, was bested by Adam Wong, whose The Way We Dance, a Hong Kong indie hit, also won Best New Performer and Best Original Film Song.
