Thailand to set up distribution hubs in Japan, other international markets
Publication Date : 28-08-2013
Thailand's International Trade Promotion Department plans to set up distribution centres in Poland, Tanzania, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain and Japan as part of its strategy for further penetration of these markets.
Director-general Srirat Rastapana on Tuesday said the distribution centres would be an efficient way to promote Thai exports to the five countries.
The government will not operate the centres, but will allow private enterprises to manage them in order to increase their operational flexibility.
The department, which will deal with the local authorities in regard to the leasing of land, will facilitate enterprises interested in setting up outlets in the distribution centres, she said.
The targeted countries are considered high-potential markets, as well as gateways to other countries.
Poland could be a gateway to Eastern Europe, while Tanzania could be a springboard to Eastern Africa.
The UAE and Bahrain could form gateways to the Middle East, while Japan is a specific market for promoting many Thai products, in particular Otop (One Tambon One Product) items, handicrafts and hand-made goods, she said.
To facilitate buyers in Japan, the department will also cooperate with Japan Post for the delivery of goods to customers in the shortest possible time, she added.
