Publication Date : 18-03-2014
The Thai Cabinet on Tuesday resolved to lift the state of emergency in Bangkok and some adjacent provinces and enforced the Internal Security Act to deal with the protests instead, the Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order announced.
Department of Special Investigation chief Tarit Pengdith, a member of the CMPO, said the ISA enforcement will continue from Wednesday until April 30.
Tarit said caretaker Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra will have to set up a new agency to replace the CMPO to enforce the ISA to maintain security in the capital.
But caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Surapong Towichukchaikul said the government would continue to use the same CMPO structure to enforce the ISA.
However, the National Security Council chief would not be part of the new structure..
Surapong said Chalerm would remain as director under the new structure while Police Commissioner General Pol Gen Adul Saengsingkaew would be the deputy director.
