StanChart launches new app in Singapore aimed at SMEs

Publication Date : 18-02-2014

Owners of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can get instant help, thanks to a new mobile application aimed at connecting them with the latest information.

The Breeze Biz app, developed by Standard Chartered Bank, includes postings of networking and educational events organised by the bank and those run by bodies such as the Singapore Business Federation and the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Another feature provides basic advice based on the profile of the business and the owner.

Calculators for things such as instalment loans and mortgages are also available, so users can better manage their working capital and even plan for expansion.

The app has a customisable news feed aggregator that picks up stories from various partners, including The Straits Times, so they can get the latest relevant news. Articles from StanChart's global research team can be accessed by SME owners, who usually have fewer resources at their disposal.

Kavita Bedi, StanChart's regional head of SME banking for Singapore and Southeast Asia, said in a statement on Monday: "As the largest international banking partner to local SMEs, we understand that the needs of SMEs are evolving, and they expect a holistic banking relationship beyond traditional bank financing.

"As the community responds to calls for greater productivity, many SMEs are also adopting new technology in their business."

StanChart has been investing in digital banking as part of its strategy to meet the changing needs of customers, who are increasingly doing their banking while on the move.

Its chief information officer for group SME banking, Chris Jenkins, said: "By using technology, we can provide SMEs with insights beyond traditional banking services that help them grow and explore new opportunities."

The free app is available in versions for the Apple and Android operating systems.
