Singapore Airlines maintains passenger load at 81.5% in June

National carrier Singapore Airlines maintained a passenger load factor of 81.5 per cent in June.

Its revenue passenger kilometres fall of 1.4 per cent was negated by a 1.3 per cent reduction in capacity.

The number of passengers carried inched up by 0.9 per cent to 1.6 million.

Passenger traffic improved for East Asia and South West Pacific due to better demand, while passenger load factor for West Asia and Africa improved due to capacity reduction.

As the operating environment remains challenging, capacity will be adjusted accordingly to better match market demand.

Promotional activities are also expected continue in markets that require additional support, which will compress yields.

Subsidiary SilkAir's systemwide passenger carriage increased 2.3 per cent against 3 per cent increase in capacity.

As a result, its passenger load factor for June eased by 0.5 percentage point to 72.7 per cent.

The change in passenger carriage lagged capacity growth in East Asia and Pacific region, while capacity adjustment in West Asia region led to an increase in passenger load factor.

Overall cargo load factor improved marginally by 0.1 percentage point to 62.7 per cent.

Cargo traffic was 3.7 per cent lower on the back of 3.8 per cent fall in capacity.

Load factors on all route regions were lower, except for Americas and West Asia & Africa, where the capacity changes were more closely matched with that of demand.
