Over 300 foreign women moonlighting as guest relation officers (GROs) and masseuse have been detained since the start of the year. The success followed Selangor police’s intensive anti-vice raids on more than 89 pubs and massage parlours in the state.

“The women detained included those from Myanmar, Vietnam and the Philippines. We also detained 123 men who worked as caretakers of the premises,” Selangor CPO Senior Deputy Commissioner Mohd Shukri Dahlan told a press conference here on Thursday.

He said the D6 unit had been tasked with ridding Selangor of vice activities.

Mohd Shukri said police also busted 226 illegal gambling joints with the arrests of 235 persons who acted as managers of the premises.

“We also detained 17 players who were caught red-handed and seized 3,700 computers,” he said.

In another development, Selangor Commercial Crimes Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Chong Mun Phing said police were also coming down hard on loan sharks, adding that 47 Ah Long (loan sharks) were detained last year with 8,025 posters removed statewide.

In the latest case, six men were detained following a raid at a double-storey house in Puchong on Wednesday.

“We seized 45,000 posters and arrested the six who were aged between 19 and 32,” said Chong.

Meanwhile, Selangor Narcotics chief Assistant Commissioner Nordin Kadir said a 37-year-old Tanzanian woman was arrested for smuggling in 109g of syabu at a hotel in Sepang on January 11.

He said police also arrested a 47-year-old Romanian man at the transit area of the KL International Airport on January 13 for hiding 2.97kg of cocaine in his luggage.
