Over 1,200 illegals deported from Malaysia since January 21

Since the start of the Malaysian authorities' crackdown on illegal immigrants, dubbed Ops 6P Bersepadu more than a week ago, 1,239 illegal immigrants have been deported.

Home Minister Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the ministry, through the immigration department, has conducted 271 operations nationwide since January 21.

"We have deported 1,239 illegals, including 563 Indonesians and 177 Myanmar nationals.

"We will step up operations against the illegals in the coming weeks," he told a press conference after launching Bukit Aman's Special Tactics and Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING) at the police training centre (Pulapol) here Thursday.

He added that some 3,000 illegals were currently in custody at Immigration detention depots around the country.
