Publication Date : 09-07-2014
Yangon International Airport, Myanmar's main gateway, recorded more than 500,000 foreign travellers entering the country from January 1 to the end of June 2014.
"There are 506,274 foreigners that have entered from the airport terminal. Most are from Thailand," said an official of the immigration department at Yangon airport.
Thai travellers mainly visit Shwedagon Pagoda, Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda and Botahtaung Pagoda, which are important Buddhist destinations. China and Japan follow Thailand with the most number of visitors.
Yangon International Airport estimates not more than 2.1 million travellers will visit the country this year. However, 2.4 million passed through the airport just last year and the country is expecting even more tourist arrivals this year.
