Publication Date : 20-08-2013
Malaysian car distributor, Naza Group, is set to distribute Citroen cars in Brunei and Thailand as part of its regional expansion plans.
According to a source, Naza will set up joint-venture companies with Bruneian and Thai partners in the respective countries to handle the Citroen distributorship.
The Citroen distributorship in the sultanate is expected to take off in December, while the Thai operations will start in the first quarter of next year.
The move is part of Naza group of companies’ joint group executive chairman SM Nasarudin SM Nasimuddin’s intention to expand Naza’s reach and raise its profile overseas.
“PSA Peugeot Citroen is confident about the Naza group’s potential in growing the Citroen brand in the region, based on its good track record in developing and growing the Peugeot brand in Malaysia,” he said.
Naza unit Nasim Sdn Bhd took over the struggling Peugeot distributorship in 2008 and turned it into one of the top-selling European brands in Malaysia in a few years.
Nasim aims to sell some 8,000 Peugeot cars in Malaysia this year.
Besides distributing Peugeot cars, Naza is also involved in the local assemblly certain models of the French carmaker, among them the 208, 308, 408 and 508.
Locally, Naza Euro Motors Sdn Bhd was appointed the distributor of Citroen cars early this year.
Currently, Naza Euro Motors sells the latest DS4 and DS5 models.
