Mild quake hits Nepal's west

A mild earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale shook Rukum, Rolpa, Salyan, Jajarkot, Gulmi and Dang districts in Nepal's west on Wednesday night.
The tremor, with its epicentre in southern Rukum, damaged about 50 houses in the districts. The District Police Office in Rukum said more than 35 people were injured in stampede following the earthquake at 10:34 pm. No human casualties have been reported in the incident.
A building used by the police personnel deployed for the security of Salle Airport in Rukum was greatly damaged in the tremor. The building is on the verge of collapse, police said.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajendra Prasad Bhatta added that about half-a-dozen school buildings in Purtimkanda, Bijayashwori, Nuwakot, Garayal villages in the region had been partially damaged due to the quake.
Bhatta said detailed reports of the earthquake’s impact is yet to come.
