MISSING MAS FLIGHT: M'sia police explore four areas in investigation

Publication Date : 12-03-2014

Malaysian police are looking at four possible angles in their investigation of the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370.

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said: “We are looking at four areas: hijacking, sabotage, psychological problems of the passengers and the crew, and personal problems among the passengers and the crew.

“Maybe somebody on the flight bought a huge sum of insurance, who wants the family to gain from it, or somebody who has owed somebody so much money, you know ... We are looking at all possibilities.

“We are looking very closely at the video footage taken at KLIA. We are studying the behaviour of all the passengers,” he told a press conference here.

Khalid said Criminal Investigation Department Director Commissioner Hadi Ho Abdullah would lead the team investigating the four areas.

He said information was being exchanged with the countries of those registered on the MH370 passenger manifest.

Khalid also said he met China’s Public Security Bureau officers on Tuesday and was given the profiles of all 153 Chinese nationals on the plane.

When asked why police were not focusing on areas such as mechanical problems and possible pilot error, Khalid said that would be left to Malaysian Airports Holdings Berhad and the Department of Civil Aviation.

“The same weightage will be given to all (angles) until we complete our investigations,” he said.
