MH17 CRASH: Bodies not expected to be home by Eid al-Fitr

Publication Date : 24-07-2014

The remains of 43 Malaysian victims of Malaysian Airlines MH17 are not expected arrive home to the country before Eid al-Fitr, said prime minister Najib Razak.

He said on Thursday that his wish of seeing the bodies of Malaysians returned to their respective families before the expected time frame was not possible due to technicalities involved in DNA verification process.

He added that it was crucial that DNA identification process was done in accordance with strict procedures to ensure that the evidence would stand up in the course of legal proceedings against the perpetrators behind the incident.

He also expressed anger that international investigators were still unable to have full access to the crash site, adding that he would hold talks with Ukraine authorities on the matter.

Najib spoke to reporters after signing the condolence book at the Netherlands Embassy.
