Late Cambodian king father statue unveiled

King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath inaugurated a statue of the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk on Friday.
The 4.5-metre-tall bronze statue was placed on a 27-metre-tall memorial stupa located in a public park east of Independence Monument in the capital city of Phnom Penh.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by National Assembly Chairman Heng Samrin, Prime Minister Hun Sen, members of the senate and parliament, and government senior officials.
The construction for the statue took eight months to complete and cost a total of around US$1.2 million.
The beloved King Father passed away on October 15 of last year at the age of 90 in Beijing, China, from a heart attack.
The Cambodian government will commemorate the one-year anniversary of the death of the late King Father on October 15.
