Karachi violence: 15 killed, alleged TTP militants arrested
Publication Date : 12-02-2013
At least 15 more people lost their lives on Monday as the ongoing wave of violence persisted in Karachi.
People were killed and injured in the city’s Ahsanabad, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Landhi Sherpao Colony, Lyari, Safora Chowrangi, Abul Hasan Isfahani Road and Garden areas.
The incidents - rooted in extremist, ethnic, sectarian and political motivations - spread fear among residents, and shops and small businesses were reportedly shut in some areas of the city.
Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Department of the Karachi Police has arrested three people, including two alleged members of the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) - the umbrella organisation comprising of a number of Islamist militant groups based in the northwestern Federally Administered Tribal Areas along the Afghan border in Pakistan - when they raided the Manghopir and Shershah areas.
According to police, the arrested have been involved in several acts of extortions and targeted killings, including attacks on foreign health teams.
