Japan's former Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori may become chairman of an organising committee for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo, it was learned Wednesday.
According to government sources, Olympic minister Hakubun Shimomura and Tsunekazu Takeda, president of the Japanese Olympic Committee, will meet Mori next week to officially request him to assume the post.
The organising committee for the Tokyo Games is expected to be launched as early as January 24 if Mori accepts the offer.
