'Internal dispute' at factory in Beijing over, Hon Hai claims
Publication Date : 25-01-2013
Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. said yesterday that an “internal dispute” between the electronic manufacturer's workers and executives at its Beijing plant has been resolved and was never a strike as reported.
The statement by Hon Hai spokesman Simon Hsing came a day after activist website molihua.org (Chinese Jasmine Revolution) reported that over 1,000 employees had gathered at a canteen in the Beijing plant on Tuesday in protest of the company's reluctance to hike pay and hand out year-end bonuses.
An assistant manager was among the demonstrators at the canteen, in an attempt to provide answers and consolation to the employees. The stalemate, however, ran well into midnight as the management failed to provide clear answers, the website reported, adding that local government sent police to the site in case the situation worsened.
The plant, operational in 2002, has about 15,000 employees working on the assembly lines producing cellphone casings and plastic components.
Hsing said the incident was not a strike but a negotiation on an internal management dispute that has now been solved.
