"I surrendered to army soldiers because I was sure they would not beat me," Fadel told reporters
Fadel Galib, who has been named a suspect in a communal clash in Dolo, Sigi regency in Central Sulawesi, turned himself in to the army instead of the police on Friday.
"I surrendered to army soldiers because I was sure they would not beat me," Fadel told reporters at the 132/Tadulako Regional Military Command (Korem) in Palu.
After surrendering himself, the army then handed him over to the Central Sulawesi Police for questioning.
The police said that Fadel was a youth from Kotarinday village in Dolo and had actively provoked communal clashes with neighboring Kotapulu village.
Hendra Latopada, from Kotarindau, admitted that Fadel was a trouble maker and had been arrested several times by the police.
Earlier in June, terror suspect Sugiatno also surrendered to the local army command in Poso believing that the army would treat him better.
