More than half of the 31 CEOs of Samsung Group’s subsidiaries were found to have come from Samsung Electronics following the group’s major executive reshuffling on Monday.
News reports noted that 17 of the 31 CEOs of affiliates are from the electronics arm, the group’s core subsidiary.
Eight executives were promoted to president in Monday’s reshuffle. Among them, five were from Samsung Electronics: Kim Young-ky, Kim Jong-ho, Cho Nam-seong, Won Gee-chan and Lee Seon-jong.
The tech firm has retained Kim Young-ky as president of the networks business and Kim Jong-ho as president of set production and head of the global production technology center.
The three others will transfer to other affiliates as part of efforts to spread the know-how for success of the electronics firm throughout the entire business empire.
Meanwhile, already standing CEOs include Samsung Electronics vice chairman Kwon Oh-hyun and the firm’s presidents Yoon Boo-keun and Shin Jong-kyun.
Park Dong-gun, Park Sang-jin and Jun Dong-soo - the new presidents and CEOs of Samsung Display, Samsung SDI and Samsung SDS, respectively - also used to work for Samsung Electronics.
A Samsung official was quoted as saying that Samsung Electronics was able to stand as a global leader due to its efforts and innovation, adding, “Other affiliates need to learn that to grow as global companies.”
Samsung Electronics is expected to announce its restructuring plan for business units and promotions and appointments within the firm on Wednesday.
