HTC ONE awarded best device at Mobile World Congress

Publication Date : 01-03-2013

Taiwanese handset maker HTC's flagship model, the HTC ONE, was yesterday awarded the Best New Mobile Handset, Device or Tablet at the Mobile World Congress 2013, taking place in Spain.

Hosted by the GSM Association (GSMA), the Mobile World Congress is a yearly trade show and conference showcasing the latest offerings of prominent mobile operators, device manufacturers and technology providers.

The reward was received by Benjamin Ho, HTC's newly hired marketing director.

Following its successful overseas debut, which has received a favorable reception, HTC is poised to unveil its new flagship model in Taiwan on March 4.

Ho also indicated that HTC had signed a strategic distribution agreement with FETnet during the Mobile World Congress in Spain, calling it a gesture signifying that HTC holds all its partners with high regard. The company's distribution deal with Chunghwa Telecom will be completed in Taiwan, following the launching of the flagship handset on March 4, to allow both telecom partners to have the spotlight separately.

Incidentally, Ho had previously served as FETnet's marketing director until the end of last year.

Reports indicate that Taiwan's major telecom operators will distribute the 16-gigabyte variant of the company's flagship handset.

The handset is currently priced at about NT$23,000 (US$774.8) to NT$26,000 in the European and North American markets.

Mass production of the handset is estimated to begin at the end of February, with global distribution to begin in March, via 185 telecom carriers worldwide, representing an unprecedentedly high projected volume, according to Fubon Financial analysts.
