Govt to repatriate 82 Indonesians from Malaysia
Publication Date : 26-01-2013
The Foreign Ministry will soon be repatriating 82 Indonesians believed to be victims of human trafficking from neighbouring country Malaysia.
They were scheduled to arrive in Jakarta on January 28, the ministry said in a statement yesterday.
The ministry’s spokesman, PLE Priatna, said that the 82 Indonesians were part of 104 Indonesians who were reportedly kept in Selangor, Malaysia. They were about to be flown to several Middle Eastern countries to work as housemaids, though they did not go through legal recruitment procedures.
The workers, who were freed by the local authorities in early December, mostly hail from East Nusa Tenggara, Central Java and East Java.
The ministry said they would report the case to the National Police once they landed in Jakarta.
