Publication Date : 28-02-2014

Global annual economic losses caused by global warming may reach to 148 trillion (US$1.45 trillion) by the end of the 21st century, according to a final draft drawn up by a working group of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

The final draft obtained by The Yomiuri Shimbun said, “Global mean temperature increase of 2.5 C above preindustrial levels may lead to global aggregate economic losses between 0.2 and 2.0 per cent of income.” The annual economic losses are equivalent to the damages between 15 trillion yen and 148 trillion yen.

Experts from 195 IPCC member countries will gather at the panel’s general meeting from March 25 to 29 in Yokohama. They are expected to discuss the final draft and approve it.
