Fire kills three in Dhaka
Publication Date : 14-02-2013
At least three people including two minor boys were burnt to death as a fire raged through dozens of densely-located shanties in Dhaka's Kamrangirchar area early Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Hossain, 7, Ferdous, 12, and Zainal, 65, said Fire Service and Civil Defence sources.
It was said that the boys were students of a local madrasa and the trio were asleep in a shanty.
Fire service sources said the fire originated around 2:20am at a shanty in the Kalunagar Beribadh area and soon engulfed its adjacent houses.
Around 80 shanties including eight shops were gutted in the blaze that was controlled only around 3:30am, the sources said.
Ten fire service units had to fight for over one hour to douse the fire.
Later, the firemen recovered the three charred bodies.
Firemen suspected that the fire originated from an electric short circuit.
