Super things to look forward to in 2013

Les Miserables

On January 16, we will finally be able to watch Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Russel Crowe, Amanda Seyfried et al in the film version of Les Miserables and see what everyone has been raving about.

Potted Potter

We’ve watched the first run but we want to watch it again. Yes, the parody by Dan and Jeff was that magical (and funny, so so funny). Harry Potter-loving Pinoys can have another dose of fun with actors Jesse Briton and Gary Trainor at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium (RCBC Plaza) from January 30 to February 3.

There are only nine shows, so bring out your wands and accio those tickets fast.

Carrie

We have a soft spot for "Carrie", Stephen King’s first published novel. And this year, we cannot wait to enjoy two versions of it—the Hollywood film starring Chloe Grace Moretz whom we adore, and "Carrie: The Musical", the Atlantis production, which will star Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo.

Superhero movies

We thought 2012 was the big year for superhero movies. But it looks like 2013 will fight for that title, too. Sadly, our reunion with Donatello, Michaelangelo, Leonardo and Raphael will have to wait. The new Ninja Turtles film, which was set to be released in December 2013, has been pushed to May 2014.

Why, Hollywood, why? But that’s okay, we’ll have other films to obsess over in the meantime: Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, The Wolverine, Man of Steel, Kick-Ass 2.

We can’t wait. Our popcorn is ready. Now all we need are the movies.

Sophie Kinsella’s Wedding Night

We’ll be perfectly honest. What we’re really waiting for is the new Shopaholic book.

Mini Shopaholic set it up perfectly: We knew Becky, Luke and Minnie are heading to Los Angeles and we couldn’t wait to see the havoc Becky will wreak on Hollywood. But since the last three have been released three years apart and Mini Shopaholic was released in 2011, we may have to wait another year to get our hands on that. But Sophie does have a new book coming out in May—Wedding Night. And yes, we love her so much that we’ll read anything she writes, even if Becky is not in it.

Minions and Monsters

Two of our favourite animated films will be back on the big screen with sequels that promise to be just as fun as the first one. Gru and the minions will return in Despicable Me 2, and Mike and Sulley will take us back to their days at school in Monsters University.

This Is The End

The film is actually a remake of the short film Jay and Seth Versus the Apocalypse, but this one is bound to be bigger and better. The plot is simple:

A bunch of celebrities are partying at James Franco’s house when the apocalypse happens. Written by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen (who also co-wrote Superbad) and with James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Paul Rudd, Jonah Hill, Jason Segel, Michael Cera, Mindy Kaling, Rihanna, Aziz Ansari and Emma Watson starring as themselves, this movie is just going to be hilarious. We just hope they show it in cinemas here.

The Bling Ring

Yup, another Emma Watson film to look forward to. News about the group of fame-obsessed teenagers who burglarised celebrity homes made headlines in 2008 and 2009. Now, five years later, you can watch a film inspired by these real events. And with Sofia Coppola at the helm of this project, we know this isn’t going to look like just another Lifetime movie.

The Host

Twilight may be over, but your Stephanie Meyer movie experience isn’t. Soon, you’ll be able to enjoy The Host in your favourite cinemas. No sparkly vampires this time.

The Gifted

We are Chris Martinez fans and we are eagerly anticipating the next film he’s writing and directing—The Gifted, a sexy comedy from Viva Films and Star Cinema starring Anne Curtis, Sam Milby and another major and exciting actress.

The next role of Tom Rodriguez

Atlantis Productions’ Aladdin led Tom and the rest of us to realise that he has the knack for theatre. We can’t wait to see him return to the stage. As Tarzan, maybe? Our fingers are crossed.

Rebel Wilson

We noticed her in Bridesmaids, but we really fell in love with her in Pitch Perfect (Fat Amy, yay!). We hope 2013 gives us a big dose of the hilarious Rebel Wilson. We know she has a film coming out (Pain & Gain with Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson) and that she’s hosting the MTV Movie Awards. But we want more Rebel. We want her to rock our 2013.
