Publication Date : 11-06-2014

Indonesian carrier Express Air is set to connect Pontianak, West Kalimantan to Johor Bahru, Malaysia on Saturday in a bid to boost the business and travel in the two cities.

"The airline proposed the Pontianak-Johor Bahru flight service earlier this year. They will have the maiden flight on Saturday," state-run airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II operations manager at Supadio Airport Syarif Usmulyani said as quoted by Antara news agency on Wednesday.

He said the airline would fly once a day between the two cities.

"We are hoping that the new flight will help accommodate the demand for transportation among people in West Kalimantan. We believe that it will also boost our economy," he said.

He said Malaysia-based low-cost carrier AirAsia had also shown an interest in linking Pontianak to international destinations.
