Publication Date : 25-12-2013
The emerging Aam Aadmi Party today finalised its Cabinet for the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government set to take oath on December 26. The list, released by Kejriwal, has six names, including that of Manish Sisodia.
With the focus now shifting to how the fledgling party will fulfil its poll promises, AAP leaders have urged people to be patient and give them time.
“We are a new party. People must be patient and give us time to fulfil our promises,” said Saurabh Bhardwaj, MLA from Greater Kailash. He features in the Cabinet list released by Kejriwal.
The 41-year-old Sisodia is a former journalist who came to prominence in the Jan Lokpal movement. Sisodia routed Nakul Bhardwaj of BJP by 11,478 votes from Patparganj.
After defeating Ajay Kumar Malhotra, son of veteran BJP leader V K Malhotra, by 13,092 votes in Greater Kailash, Saurabh Bhardwaj too has got an entry into the cabinet. Bhardwaj, previously an engineer, is also a student of law.
Rakhi Birla (26), the youngest AAP politician, is also in Kejriwal's ministerial list. She is a former journalist. Rakhi defeated PWD Minister Rajkumar Chouhan, who had won four consecutive elections since 1993 for the Congress, by around 10,500 votes in Mangolpuri constituency.
Malviya Nagar MLA, Somnath Bharti, who is an IIT graduate and a practising lawyer, also figures in the AAP Cabinet list. He defeated former Women and Child Development Minister Kiran Walia.
Satyendra Jain from Shakur Basti and Girish Soni from Madipur, too, have been chosen for the AAP cabinet.
Former Congressman Vinod Kumar Binny, whose name was doing the rounds as a probable Cabinet minister, does not figure in the AAP list.
He defeated former Delhi health minister A K Walia by around 8,000 votes.
After the list of Cabinet ministers was announced, Binny met Kejriwal this evening. After the meeting, which lasted less than 10 minutes, Binny said, “If I say something now it will be a huge controversy.”
Kejriwal, it is learnt, has chosen senior IAS officer Rajendra Kumar to be his Principal Secretary. The party made it clear that Lokpal Bill is its top priority. “The party will ensure that Lokpal Bill is passed.’’
