Publication Date : 13-02-2013

A secondary school certificate (SSC) examinee, who fatally stabbed a schoolteacher in Dhaka on Monday for obstructing him from copying during an examination, has been arrested.

“We arrested Riyad from the house of one of his relatives in Kadamtoli  today,” Sakhawat Hossain, the officer-in-charge of the South Keraniganj Police Station.

The victim, Mostafa Bhuiyan, 35, was an English teacher at the Chunkutia Girls' High School in South Keraniganj in Dhaka district.

Bhuiyan stopped Riyad, a student of Oriental Textile Mills High School at Subhadda in South Keraniganj, from copying during the mathematics examination on Sunday.

Around 7:30 am the next day, Riyad knocked on the door of Mostafa’s flat in east Chunkutia and asked Mostafa to come out, according to police.

Riyad had then stabbed Mostafa and run away.

Doctors pronounced Mostafa dead when he was rushed to Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka.
