Publication Date : 09-01-2014

A convoy of vehicles carrying over 270 people from various government offices and businesses left Vientiane yesterday, bound for Xieng Khuang and Huaphan provinces to promote tourism and celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Lao People's Army.

The caravan of around 50 cars, including official vehicles, left early in the morning yesterday after the tour was officially opened by Deputy Prime Minister Asang Laoly.
The purpose of the tour is to promote the northern tourism sites in both provinces and pay tribute to the Lao people who fought in the revolutionary period. It was jointly organised by the ministries of National Defence, Public Security, Public Works and Transport and Information, Culture and Tourism.

The Minister for Information, Culture and Tourism, Bosengkham Vongdara told those at the ceremony the caravan would travel from January 8 to 13, moving along Road 13 North to Xieng Khuang province before reaching Huaphan province as the final destination, then returning to Vientiane.

“The caravan will spread the message that Laos is the World's Best Tourist Destination for 2013, as well as promote various outstanding natural, historic and cultural sites,” Bosengkham said.

He said the activity would also promote domestic tourism and Lao people visiting other parts of Laos.

“At the same time, hundreds of attendees will track the history of the Lao military,” Bosengkham said.

He said Laos should preserve its beautiful natural resources by developing green tourism sites.

“Natural tourism with local people involved in preservation has good potential to attract tourists coming to see nature and the lifestyles and traditions of local people,” he said.
