Cambodian king appoints Hun Sen as prime minister
Publication Date : 23-09-2013
Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni on Monday appointed Hun Sen as the Prime Minister for the fifth mandate of the inaugural session of parliament.
Immediately after the broadcast of the appointment letter by the King, Hun Sen expressed his strong commitment to fulfill his duties as Prime Minister.
"To the gratitude of the King who has appointed me as Prime Minister of Cambodia, I will work hard from my mind and heart to fulfill my tasks to serve the interest of the country and citizens,” Hun Sen said in a letter to the King.
"I will prepare the components of government to bring to the National Assembly tomorrow for the confidence vote," he said.
The King presided over the opening session of the National Assembly despite the boycott by the opposition's elected lawmakers.
The Cambodia National Rescue Party issued a statement criticising the opening of the first session of parliament because only the elected lawmakers from the Cambodian People’s Party attended the session.
They said that the session violated the constitution as Cambodian citizens voted for two parties, but the session was held with involvement of only one party.
