Cambodian PM orders officials to declare assets
Publication Date : 22-01-2013
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen ordered officials yesterday to declare their assets to the Anti-Corruption Unit before January 31.
"There are only ten days left. I have already declared my assets," he told a land title ceremony in Stung Treng, noting that late declarations will be punished.
Between January 1 and 20, an estimated 62 per cent of 23,000 officials declared their wealth.
Since 2011, declarations of assets are made every two years by government and military officers starting at the levels of department chiefs and colonels.
Lawmakers are also required to make declarations along with commune, province, city and district councillors as well as heads of civil society organisations.
