Businessman becomes Taoist medium to help others
Publication Date : 27-07-2013
He is an educated and successful businessman with a good command of English. At the same time, he is also a figure who is a far cry from the usual Taoist mediums. Most of the time, Desmond Ee from Taman Merdeka, Malacca, is busy managing his health labs located in Kuala Lumpur, Seremban and Malacca. But whenever Taoist devotees need his help, he will rush back to the Seng Koon Taoist Temple to provide medium service.Prior to 2004, Ee would spite the mention of mediums, as to him, most were only out to fleece people by taking advantage of those with problems. But 46-year-old had a change in perspective and even became one himself, after going into a trance to render help to those with ailments and get rid of black magic.
“It is divine intervention and a calling for me.
“Those who come to see a medium are people with problems and it is unfair to charge them a fee,” he told The Star.
The father of a 14-year-old daughter and six-year-old son felt that a genuine medium would only be interested in solving problems and not money.
He said the temple’s main deity Zhang Fei was a respectable warrior with discipline, nobility, bravery and loyalty.
“Those who worship him should not deceive or lie,” he said. “There is no place for our temple’s committee members to be lackadaisical in their duties or attempt to solicit money from devotees.”
“If they do, they will be dealt with severely when I go into a trance,” he added.
Ee also provides spiritual service to devotees from other countries, like the United States and Australia.
When in a trance, he communicates with devotees in various dialects.
Like Ee, the temple’s committee members are professionals and businessmen who are mainly English-educated.
He said the members should fulfil their filial duties accordingly and should not be involved in vice activities.
Apart from normal prayers, the temple also organises religious classes and charity campaigns.
