Publication Date : 06-05-2014
Austrian Minister of Transportation, Innovation and Technology Doris Bures and Indonesian Transportation Minister EE Mangindaan signed on Monday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation and investment for the development of transportation infrastructure.
The cooperation agreement will involve planning and redesigning transportation infrastructure, sharing technical assistance, technological research, data management and transportation safety management.
Mangindaan said it would focus primarily on land transportation, mostly railway development and land transportation management.
“Austria has helped develop our railway industry since 1995, through support in maintenance, procurement and management. We aim to learn more from them in terms of safer land transportation, as [Austria] is a vital crossroads in Europe,” Mangindaan told reporters.
Aside from the transportation agreement, Bures also signed an MoU with Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Jero Wacik at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry in an effort to boost investment in Indonesia’s hydropower industry. Austria is one of the world’s foremost producers of hydroelectricity, which, according to the World Bank in 2012, met 61.4 per cent of the country’s energy needs.
