A joint statement to be issued after a summit meeting between Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and US President Barack Obama on Thursday will stress the strong Japan-US alliance, The Yomiuri Shimbun has learned.

Apparently with China’s repeated provocative actions around the Senkaku Islands in Okinawa Prefecture in mind, the joint statement also will state that Japan and the United States share a common recognition that any attempt to change the status quo by force will never be tolerated, according to sources.

Also, arrangements are being made to stipulate in the joint statement that the bilateral talks on the Trans-Pacific Partnership multilateral trade agreement have made a significant progress.
